Velma Garnes

MEET velma (aka, the velmanator)

Velma is a devoted exercise physiologist with a passion for empowering women navigating through all stages of menopause. With a blend of science & compassion, she crafts effective workouts that focus on muscle strengthening and bone building to not only enhance physical aesthetics, but bolster health and wellness.

With a Master’s in Exercise Science and certification as an NASM Performance Enhancement Specialist, Velma combines academic knowledge with practical experience, yet she believes in being a companion in your fitness journey rather than a distant expert.

Velma’s honest, lighthearted yet unwavering approach stems from years of diverse experience, having trained individuals from quadriplegics, cancer survivors, MS population, stroke and brain injury survivors to elite university athletes, including The Ohio State University men and women track teams.

Not a stranger to personal transformation, by her 40th birthday, she embraced the rigor of fitness and figure competitions, shedding 30 pounds and earning a place among the top contenders. Now as she journeys through her own menopausal years, Velma is committed to being a resource, guide, and supporter to others embarking on a similar path.

With 35 enriching years combined teaching Ashtanga yoga & Spinning®, and 37 years as a personal trainer, Velma’s expertise is both deep and wide. Recognitions like being a Lululemon Ambassador and being elected as the best cardio instructor for Exercise TV underscore her commitment to excellence and innovation in fitness.

She always provides options to either scale back or take it up a notch. That's the beauty of it...it's your workout. I really appreciated that there wasn't a lot of jumping or plyo activities since I have a past foot injury that doesn't allow me to do want I could've done 20 years ago.
